Woman HIV+
Can you have children?
Yes, using artificial insemination to avoid infecting their partners (see Artificial Insemination), or through IVF in the following cases:
1. if the woman is over 35 years.
2. if the tubes are blocked.
3. if semen quality is insufficient (less than two million motile sperm) for insemination.
4. if there have been three cycles of IAC without achieving pregnancy (See IVF).
What requirements must be HIV-positive women to carry out assisted reproductive technologies (artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization)?
There are four main requirements:
1. specialized medical supervision.
2. undetectable viral load or low.
3. CD4 positive lymphocytes than 300.
4. must make antiretroviral treatment during pregnancy (must follow the criteria for infectious diseases).
Childbirth, is it natural or cesarean delivery?
By cesarean section, is shown in this way reduces the risk of HIV transmission from mother to child (vertical transmission).
Furthermore, the mother should breastfeed her child, because breast milk is a route of HIV transmission.
What experience is there?
The risk of infection cause the child is less than 1%.
MAN seropositive for HIV (AIDS virus)
Can you have children without infecting own wife?
Yes you can. This requires removing the virus in semen and fertile fraction (motile sperm), carry out artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The HIV virus, what components of the semen is?
HIV is in the seminal plasma (liquid where the sperm swim) and in lymphocytes and macrophages that are in the semen. If the laboratory we separated the motile sperm of the two components above, we will be part of fertile sperm free of viruses and can be used, safely, for insemination or IVF.
The virus does it affect sperm?
There are no experimental or clinical data showing that this happens.
With the washing technique for HIV in semen, is it sufficient to rule that there is no virus in fertile semen fraction obtained after washing?
For added security check that is virus motile sperm. Only used if the result is negative, ie there is no virus.
What is the Institute Cefer experience in this field?
It is the first center in Spain and the second worldwide. Have been conducted over 1000 cycles of assisted reproduction and has not spread to any woman. This security coincides with that published by assisted reproduction centers in other countries.
When artificial insemination is indicated?
Artificial insemination is indicated when the woman is under 35, the tubes are not obstructed and the total number of motile sperm obtained after washing the sperm and the study of HIV is greater than two million.
What follows IVF cases?
In women over 35 years or blocked fallopian, when the number of motile sperm obtained after washing is less than two million, and when there have been three cycles of artificial insemination without having achieved pregnancy (see Artificial Insemination and IVF) .
